North Vancouver Dental Fillings Services

Dental Fillings

Trust Aqua Dental, a trusted North Vancouver-based dentist, to provide you with tooth filling services that protect the overall health of your tooth and prevent further decay.

Most people visit the dentist from a young age. It’s in childhood when they know what a cavity is and how the dentist treats cavities with tooth fillings so they can maintain happy healthy teeth. As people grow older, visits to the dentist become even more important to protecting oral health.

When to Seek Dental Care for a Cavity or Tooth Decay

It’s important to seek treatment services for caries as soon as pain or sensitivity is felt in the tooth. Other signs and symptoms you may experience with caries include pain when biting down and black, white or brown tooth stains. If these issues arise, Aqua Dental can work with you to select the right treatment option and determine whether a tooth-colored composite filling, or another option will be the best course of action.

Because untreated cavities can cause severe tooth decay and require more intensive care, such as the installation of a dental crown, call us right away if you suspect you may have a caries or other oral health problems.

Tooth Filling Graphic

If a cavity is left for a long period of time, it can get to a point where the tooth decays past where a dental filling can be used, and a dental crown may be required.

This, of course, is more costly and emphasizes the importance of dealing with cavities as soon as possible. Talk to the oral health care experts at Aqua Dental to discuss fillings if you are living with a cavity or cavities.

What’s the Difference Between Silver Amalgam Fillings and Composite Tooth Fillings?

Dentistry and oral health care have a long history and over time, the materials use for tooth filling have changed. While silver amalgam fillings were considered the standard for many years, the procedure requires the use of mercury, which is known to be unhealthy and associated with potential dangers. As a result, most dental practices have transitioned to using other types of fillings, including composite, which are tooth-colored fillings and are color-matched to your teeth.

Other options for fillings include ceramic, which is less likely to stain but relatively expensive when compared with composite, and glass lonomer, which features a blend of acrylic and glass that releases fluoride; however, glass lonomer fillings are the least durable and may need to be replaced.

What Does Research Say About My Old Amalgam Filling?

While dentists don’t commonly use silver for fillings anymore, those that are in good condition don’t typically require removal. If you’re concerned about your silver amalgam fillings, reach out to Aqua Dental.

Although many people dread going to the dentist, regular dental care is essential for maintaining good dental hygiene. One of the most common dental procedures is tooth filling, which is used to repair damage caused by tooth decay. A filling helps to restore the strength and integrity of the tooth, and it can also prevent further decay from occurring. The first step in getting a filling is to have the affected tooth cleaned and prepared by the dentist. Once the tooth is ready, the dentist will place a layer of dental amalgam or composite resin into the cavity. The filling is then shaped and polished, and it will be left in place to protect the tooth from further damage. Although fillings are a fairly routine procedure, they can make a big difference in protecting your teeth from decay.

A filling is a type of dental restoration which, as the name suggests, fills in a tooth that has been damaged by decay or injury. The goal of our filling services is to restore the function, structure, and aesthetic of the tooth. There are several different types of materials that can be used for a filling, including gold, silver amalgam, and composite resin. The type of material used will depend on the location of the filling, as well as the patient’s preference. In addition to fillings, other common dental services include teeth cleanings and extractions. Regular dental care is essential for maintaining good dental hygiene. By seeing a dentist on a regular basis, you can help to prevent serious problems from developing.

Learn more about your teeth

Teeth are small, white calcified structures that are found in the mouth. They are used for chewing, biting and grinding food. There are two types of teeth: primary (milk) teeth and permanent teeth. Primary teeth start to erupt (grow) through the gums at around 6 months old and are all usually present by the age of 3 years. All 20 of the primary teeth should be replaced by permanent teeth by the time a child reaches adolescence. Permanent teeth start to come through (erupt) at around 6 years old. By the age of 21, all 32 permanent teeth should have erupted. Teeth are made up of four main parts: enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp. Enamel is the hard outer layer that protects the tooth. Dentin is a yellowish bone-like tissue that makes up most of the tooth structure. The cementum is a hard tissue that covers the root of the tooth. The pulp is the innermost part of the tooth that contains blood vessels and nerves. Teeth are held in place in the jawbone by periodontal ligaments. These are small fibrous tissues that attach the cementum of the tooth root to the socket in the jawbone. When you bite or chew, pressure is applied to these ligaments, which causes them to stretch slightly. This helps to keep your teeth securely anchored in your jawbone. Tooth decay can occur when plaque (a sticky film of bacteria) forms on your teeth and produces acids that eat away at the enamel. If left untreated, tooth decay can lead to cavities and eventually to tooth loss. Regular brushing and flossing can help to remove plaque and prevent tooth decay from occurring.
